Product Review:
Medialab SiteGrinder 2 enables Photoshop users to build standards compliant CSS based Web pages from right within Photoshop. It provides a way for designers, photographers and others to create there very own webpage. With SiteGrinder you can create photo galleries, Flash slideshows (with pans, zooms and cross dissolves,) CSS based menus and more. Your page will retain the same look you created in Photoshop all without needing to know a single line of code.
How does Sitegrinder 2 Work?
Each layer you create needs be assigned a “-hint” A hint is a tag that tells SiteGrinder what the layer is and what to do with that layer. eg. if you type the word “Home” and name that layer “home-button,” SiteGrinder 2 will create a button out of it. You can take that one step further and create a duplicate layer, change the color and name that layer home-rollover” and you have instantly created a rollover effect for your site…As easy as that! There are a stack of hints that can be used to create text, buttons, rollovers, popup’s, links, and more to help your page look more professional.
Favorite Features:
My favorite features are the flash slideshows and photo galleries. (This is the reason why I decided on the sitegrinder 2 pro version.) Site grinder makes it super easy to get professional looking flash slideshows on your website
. Check out my example pages on the left. The pro version also has the ability to make cgi and php forms. The documentation is easy to understand and use but for those of us who are geared more towards visual learning, MediaLab has a collection of online video tutorials that will take you through step by step everything you need to know to get started.
Free Sitegrinder Training:
They even host free exclusive SiteGrinder 2 web design tutorials where you have the opportunity to get your questions answered by SiteGrinder 2’s co-creator and product manager, Tom Summerall.

Happy Designing,
What’s the Difference between the Sitegrinder 2 Professional and Basic Versions
I shelled out the extra $$$ for the sitegrinder 2 professional version. Because I am a photographer and need the flash capabilities in my web design. You might not have to. Check below to see if you need the extra features.

How does a person get a webpage onto the internet?
Sorry…this may seem like a stupid question-but, I’m not sure how all this stuff works. If I have a website created (or create it myself using sitegrinder) then what? How do I get it online? Has anyone used sitegrinder (photoshop plugin) to create their own website? If so, was it fairly easy to use? Thanks for the help!
Well you have a couple options:
Some Internet service providers give their members a free website that is more than enough for the average person. If you don’t have that, there are also a number of free hosting websites that would work just as well. This would be a great way to go about it, as most such sites have great instructions and support for people using their services. This is usually only good for static web pages, so you won’t be able to host a forum, or even have a search feature for your website. That’s probably enough for what you want to do. However, it can get more interesting, a lot more interesting…
If you plan to have thousands of visitors a day, you should consider buying hosting from a commercial hosting service and buying a domain. This can cost as little as $5 a month and few more dollars a year to register the domain. If you want to be hard-core, you can buy a business connection from you internet provider, set up a server either on your normal PC or buy a dedicated server to host your website. If you want to be corporate hard core, you can enter into a multi-million dollar contract with a major telecommunications company (say, AT&T) and have them run a few hundred servers for you. If you want you could have them just give you a direct connection to the Internet backbone and run your own servers (a few hundred or so) with a small maintenance staff. Of course if you want to go Google (or Yahoo) hard core, you can go around the world buying a few servers at every datacenter you can find, eventually running hundreds of thousands of servers capable of serving millions of people every second without a hint of lag.
